My dog is about 8lbs, she is incapable of peeing out more than possibly 1/16th of a cup of urine when she needs to go and I'm being generous in the amount of urine that she would possibly go at one time, yet these pee pads that I purchased from the home improvement store ( that were 3 dollars more than this bag of glad brand bags mind you) have not even been able to hold that amount of urine and I always need to mop the floor under the pad once I get home on top of having to toss out the pad!
On top of the disappointing performance of the store brand for my dog, I have now rescued a lion head bunny. Since adopting her, I have discovered that you cannot put normal rabbit bedding down in her cage, anything you leave is going to stick to their long hair!
I was at a lose as to what to do until another lion head owner suggested that I use pee pads to line my bunnies cage! An ingenious suggestion that has kept my bunny's hair free of bedding debris, but once again, lifting out the pee pads is a disgusting mess!
They wind up being soaked with urine and wet underneath the pee pads as well!
So tonight I threw in the towel on this other brand of pee pads and I just placed an order for another bag of the glad pee pads!
They work incredibly well, not once did urine ever soak through the pad and onto the floor when using for my dog, I'm just hoping they work just as well in my rabbits cage!
I will keep you all posted if they do or not, but as far as using for my pup, they are the most absorbent pads that I have ever used and will continue to order these and only these from now on!

Great at odor control, absorbtion needs work. So I have been using it for my ferret cage. It does a great job at odor control as it takes a lot of excrement from the ferret for the repulsive odor to become noticeable if not unbearable. I changed them out daily either way, sometimes multiple times a day.
They don't however absorb all the moisture from urination. It stays in the pad for the most part, but when you lift the pad, it's always damp underneath. This has led to stains on the cage liners. I can remove the stains easily by giving them a good washing in the machine with detergent and baking soda... But it would be nice if I wouldn't have to worry about it unless my ferret actually misses her mark.Otherwise great product for any pet being potty trained.

They’re like a 7, used to be a 9 edit3: 5/10 changed again. I’ve been buying these for months, and when I bought them a 2nd time, they changed/redesigned the pads, and I thought it was better than ever! However I lowered a star bcs I recently bought them again, and they changed them again. Now they seem so thin and flimsy, I don’t like what they did when they folded the sides in even more than before which I thought was perfect before! As I put these ontop of a tray so if the dogs pee off it, it gets absorbed or is on the tray(which they usually don’t but some accidents happen) and the folded sides just bring it in, and stays folded making it more likely for that to happen unless I really fold it back and take the time to do so. I also think the ones I used to buy would hold more pee, as these seep through a little bit but I just wipe it down, didn’t have that problem before. Stop changing the pads and leave them alone. You keep changing the recipe it will be a different one, and more so less appealing. They were great as is. As this folded in side is rlly getting on my nerves! The top is the newer version and bottom is older, u can even see more padding on the older version. You can also see how the older version just sticks up better and the new won’t stay up and keeps folding down. The only reason the other side of the newer version is staying up is bcs I have it pinned to the wood. I like the older version better.
Edit: they seemed to change the pads again! But this time they laid the edges flat!! I get the black/charcoal because the white pads show pee marks which are gross to see. I tried other black pads from different brands and when my puppy tears it, it would have little beads or fibers everywhere. The Glad brand doesnt have those little beads or tiny fibers, when my puppy does tear it, it is usually just torn in pieces. The description on this style says that there are lifted edges that keep pee from leaking on the sides but it's only lifted on two sides. I would suggest that they put the lifted edges on all sides and makes the pads more durable where they can't be torn too easily and just a bit more absorbent(it's absorbent but sometimes when puppy has lot of pee it doesnt absorb quick enough and when she steps away she ends up stepping in the pee and it gets on the flooring). 4 people found this helpful

Then they changed…now they have charcoal in them, they’re VERY thin and they do NOT absorb whatsoever, leaving my dog walking away with urine on her feet. Regardless of how much she goes, the pads constantly look wet, and they obviously are still wet with having wet puppy prints on the carpet. I’ve had to buy a reusable pad to put under it to avoid the wet prints on the carpet all of the time. I can only go 1/2 a day before needing to change these, whereas with the old formula, I could go at least 2 days. Still, I’m cleaning up more urine off the carpet than I ever have because of her urine soaked feet. She also smells like urine all of the time unless I bathe her constantly. This is a BIG issue that majorly needs resolved. Unfortunately, this will be my last pack until they go back to what they used to be because these are terrible.As you can see from the first picture I attached, you can see how wet the pad is from my 4 pound chihuahua (she went once a few hours earlier in the same spot), and you can see her very wet paw prints walking away on the blue washable potty pad…it’s no longer absorbing her urine like it used to, so she peeing in a puddle.
The second picture I took 3 hours later, and you can see how wet it still is. It’s like this ALL OF THE TIME now, no matter how many times she goes or how much she goes, it’s always wet.
With the way they used to be made, you could barely tell if she went or not. Bring those back!

Saved my dog February 28, 2020 Style: RegularSize: 23" x 23" - 100 CountVerified Purchase My little fur buddy, a Chug puppy, turned out to be sensitive to the chemicals found in those white and blue pads made from recycled materials. His paws were red, swollen, and he licked them so much that he got a serious full body skin infection from yeast and bacteria, due to his constant licking. No vet helped, although he's been to at least 4 different ones. They all said food or a thyroid issue were the causes. I did those things. Everything they told me. Even tried Apoquel. Bad stuff, that! He now has these tumors or cysts all over him.
One day in my local Meijer, there was one 14 count pack of Glad charcoal pads for 1/3 of what the rest cost. I bought them due to price. Within days his paws returned to regular pink color, swelling went totally away, and he's slowly recovering from that awful black elephant skin texture, caused by overgrowth of yeast. I'm using Zymox shampoo for his skin issue, and a yeast/bacteria shampoo from vet. These are slowly bringing him back to himself. Had to put him on Amoxicillin for a couple of weeks to get his BMs back to normal, due to internal infection, but even that is gone. He was so sick that I thought I was going to have to put him down. Prayer, and a shortage of funds for regular pads brought me to the discovery of what was wrong.To think! This dog has been struggling with this skin issue for 6 or 7 years, and I've spent thousands on trying to keep him well...and it seems it was all because of the pads. He's 11 now, and when I lose him, and if I ever get another little guy, I'll never train him on pads again. My bad! Didn't know any better. He was my first puppy and I had no idea what I was doing, training him to go on those pads.
This 100 count package lasts a long time, and I'm very glad I bought it. It saved my little guy's life.

They still try to tear apart and eat them but the edges are made from a different, more durable material, so the edges don’t tear even with their sharp little teeth. They also try to eat the middle of the pads but again, they can’t really do much damage with these. I trusted the Glad name but I’ve had a few months to use these and they just don’t do the job you would want. Now that I’ve tried 2 other brands, I realize that I could have want I need in these pee pads.
First, when I toss them, they have the most horrible order. Causes me to gag. When i go to the kitchen trash, I’m afraid to open it. I spray that enzyme stuff just to get through it. Unfortunately, I bought 2 of these. I’ve finished the first bag. Now I’m stuck with this other bag.The other issue for me, and this is the BIG ONE, is that when my puppy pees, the pee forms a trail to his back feet. He steps in and then his wet feet leave foot prints all over the entire wood floors. I have to mop everyday. I would watch him so I can be ready to wipe his feet when he’s finished and his back foot/feet are soaked. The pee should immediately be soaked up and should not flow on top and then soak in. So, the horrible smell and the pee not absorbing during the deed make these unusable. I have found ones that have no odor and the pee forms a nice circle that flows immediately into the pad and not on his feet. (Hint: Your heartz would love them?)

I had to replace the grass pads every week ($30+). They had to be watered. I had to use enzymes to keep them from smelling. And the worst was they were difficult to dispose of and weighed a ton which meant throwing only the grass away otherwise the bag would be too heavy to lift.These pads fit in the frame which comes in two sections so they are locked down and don’t blow away (buy the tray, really).
I simply change the pad daily so there is no smell — I can let them go two days with no smell If it rains, they do get heavy but nowhere near the weight of the grass pads. Also, if it rained, you simply replace the pad cause they are cheap.
This is a much better solution.

Also my baby doesn’t like using it more than once (just for urinating, I mean) and tends to go elsewhere if I don’t put a fresh one down. I have yet to find one that has an instant dry cover. If you have, please post here to let me know the brand. I did like that these are the perfect size for me. Not too small or too large. And I think the color definitely makes them less noticeable when I have company. I do not think they help much with odors. But it’s possible that after one use you won’t notice. I still have leakage at times, but not quite as bad as the others that I have tried. What does bother me the most is the inconsistency in the pad. The ones with the thicker barrier lines on the pads were the best I’ve gotten so far but then this shipment is completely different, feels thinner and you see the barrier strip is much thinner. I don’t understand this inconsistency, you would think that these are made in a factory type setting on machinery that would keep things uniform but it’s clear they are not. The last shipment the pads were thicker, were folded perfectly, were easy to unfold without wrinkles that wouldn’t straighten out and the barrier strip was so much thicker. I have read mixed reviews.... so let me give some clarity ... For those who get upset that it pools off and onto the floor... Use a plastic tray.. this does not absorb in as quickly as the blue type of pad. HOWEVER once it does absorb (30 seconds or so) it gels up, leaving the outer layer dry .. because it takes longer to absorb it can roll off on the floor. This can ruin certain flooring... we use a plastic puppy pad tray.. The sheets are larger than the tray so we fold the one side in.. again if you leave that hanging on the floor over the tray your floor will get wet.
You can barely see where its wet once it soaks in, so no yellow stain to see ... there is odor ... its a paper/plastic pad, not an air freshener.. LOL .. but I think it holds the odors better than the blue pads that just stay soaking wet. We had used another brand with the black/ charcoal system and the first 2 boxes worked great, then they changed the padding?? and they fell apart. so we tried the GLAD training pads.. and these work like the other ones used to... We have purchased these a couple times and are on auto ship...It works as intended, use the plastic tray and spare your floor..

IMAGE NOTESWide white strip (to stop the urine from going off the pad) used to be on the outside of the fold. Now the white strip is narrower & folded under the black vinyl.
Before using the pad you have to run your finger down each side to uncover the white strip. Then you have to fold the vinyl to the back, otherwise it keeps rolling over the white strip. Even then the vinyl usually flips over again to cover the white strip. When urine lands on the black strip, it doesn't dry & it makes the area smell like urine. Previously, my dog could use one set of pads all day with no urine odor.
I am very disappointed & have reduced my stars from 5 to 3. I have been buying these since March 2022, but I probably will not purchase again unless they return to original fold.

Opening a new pkg, I discovered all of the white strips are covered by black plastic from the back. I unfolded the black plastic to expose the white strips, but they kept rolling back.
I am disappointed. Although they will replace the defective pkg, I will need to go out to return the defective pkg. While that is easy for most people, I have serious chronic illness that prevents me from getting out much.

I've used several other brands as well. These charcoal-version pads do seem to reduce the urine odor by about half, but it is still "there". We usually leave the pad down for 2 or 3 nights as she only pees on it once a night if at all. You wouldn't want to leave it on the floor much longer because odor does get worse after a day or so. Pads worked great for this type of use.
We recently got a new pup, a large breed, but she's only 3 months old. When she uses the pad even one time it is pretty well soaked. Also, these pads weren't large enough for her. She often would step on the pad with her front feet and squat, missing the pad entirely. When she does hit the absorbent part of the pad, it all gets contained and none leaks onto floor.Caution: FALL RISK!
the biggest problem with these pads is that if you accidentally step on one that has been used, YOU WILL SLIP & fall risk is HIGH! I've stepped on these during the night; the dark pee pad color makes them nearly impossible to see on a dark-colored hard floor. I have a bad back and the sudden slip and nearly falling jerks my neck and back pretty badly. The pads don't have that problem if they're clean and unused. However, beware if the pad has been used and is on a hard surface, the gel inside or some part of the wet material makes them extremely unstable and slippery!!! ... like freshly mopped soapy floor walking in flip flops slippery! Be careful about this problem!

I don't know about anything else because its been 6 months or more since my dogs did anything else in the house.
My dogs are not puppies, I have had them for 7 years. They are very clean dogs, and prefer to do their bathroom business outside if its possible, but are careful to use their pads otherwise. Their pads are in front of a very tall window and sometimes the sun shines in on the pads and alerts me two rooms over that there's urine there :-) so I thought the carbon pads would help with that. They do. But there's one problem.Having never used anything but white wee wee pads, the dogs weren't sure what to think about the black pads. They saw me put them there, and had very concerned looks on their faces. A few days later I figured out why.
I remembered the dogs faces as they were watching me lay the charcoal pads down on top of their white pads. Then I realized, if a dog wants to claim something, he lays something he owns on top of it. They thought I was claiming their wee wee pads by putting "my" black charcoal pads over them! Because I'm the leader of the pack, they were careful to respect what was mine by doing their business on the white pads in between. When I figured out what was going on, I put the charcoal pads underneath to catch leaks and any runoff (which we rarely have).
Just be aware if you have older dogs who have only ever seen white wee wee pads. :-)

For years I purchased the blue pads from Walmart or whatever was cheapest on Amazon. I now know that putting a little money into it is WORTH IT. My chihuahua is so tiny and she needs somewhere to go inside, especially during winter. First pro is that the black pads make her area look cleaner. You can’t see where she peed and the charcoal within greatly reduced the smell. It was a very noticeable difference. We still had issues with smell now and then but nowhere near as bad. We actually ran out and had to use some of our old blue pad stash and it was awful (I never repurchased something faster in my life) Our last pad purchase we saw the new Glad anti microbial pads and decided to give them a try. My bathroom where we keep her box smells like a normal bathroom again! We were mind blown with the difference once again. They are the same price as the regular but with little to no smell!!! Our lives are actually changed with this one and now we don’t have to worry about guests smelling her area. The original were good but the anti microbial is GREAT.
