The dreaded post-surgery recovery period often begins with a trip home accompanied by the infamous hard plastic cone—the classic “cone of shame.” While necessary for wound protection, these rigid devices frequently cause pets immense stress, block their vision, hinder movement, and result in them aggressively bumping into walls and furniture. This stress can actively impede the healing process.

Fortunately, pet recovery technology has evolved. If you are looking for a genuinely superior solution that prioritizes your furry friend's comfort and mobility, the BENCMATE Inflatable Dog Cone Collar Alternative, Soft Dog Cone for Small Medium Large Dogs and Cats, Neck Recovery ECollar Donut Collar After Surgery is the answer. This innovative, donut-shaped recovery collar offers a plush, barrier-style protection that transforms recovery from a source of anxiety into a peaceful, even cozy, experience. We dive deep into its design, effectiveness, and user feedback to determine if this comfortable dog cone alternative after surgery lives up to its promise of ditching the plastic nightmare for good.

The Problem with the 'Cone of Shame': Why Alternatives Matter

Any pet owner who has navigated post-operative recovery knows the struggle of the traditional plastic Elizabethan collar (E-collar). These devices, while effective at creating distance, turn everyday life into a frustrating obstacle course. Imagine being unable to see your surroundings clearly, constantly running into doorframes, and having difficulty reaching your food bowl.

User reviews consistently highlight these pain points. One reviewer, owning a large spoiled black lab recovering from an eye issue, recounted how the plastic cone caused the dog such distress that she was intentionally "slinging the cone around bumping into everything she could," leading to risks of injury greater than the initial eye problem. This illustrates a critical point: recovery should be restful, not stressful.

The BENCMATE collar addresses these issues head-on. By creating a barrier around the neck rather than a restrictive funnel around the face, it provides protection without the negative psychological and physical impacts. This switch allows for a truly stress-free recovery.

BENCMATE Inflatable Dog Cone Collar Alternative: Product Overview and Key Features

The BENCMATE inflatable collar is built on a simple yet brilliant premise: use air pressure and soft fabric to create a comfortable, protective ring. It functions as a neck brace that prevents bending and twisting to reach injured areas, while serving double-duty as a pillow.

Design and Comfort: A Built-In Pillow

The core of the product is a durable PVC inner tube, which is inflated to create a protective, cushiony ring. This tube is encased in a soft, removable, and washable fabric cover. Users repeatedly call the BENCMATE product the ideal soft inflatable donut collar for dogs to prevent licking, noting that pets often use it as a pillow while napping. One pet owner remarked that their dog, who had TPLO surgery, was much more comfortable and was not banging the collar against the crate thanks to the softness of the fabric.

Safety and Vision: E-Collar That Doesn't Block Vision

One of the BENCMATE’s most appreciated features is its minimal interference with the pet's peripheral vision and daily activities. Unlike the plastic funnel, this collar design is an e-collar that doesn't block vision for eating sleeping. Pets can easily navigate their environment, eat from ground-level bowls, drink water, and interact normally. This maintenance of routine is crucial for lowering anxiety during recovery.

Security and Fit: Adjustable Anti-Lick Dog Cone

The BENCMATE features two critical security mechanisms: an internal system and an external one.

  • Internal Loops: The donut has loops inside the ring where the pet's existing collar can be threaded through. This vital step prevents the dog from slipping the collar off, particularly for determined escape artists.
  • External Velcro Strap: A strong, adjustable anti-lick dog cone for post-op wounds is ensured by the robust Velcro strap around the outer ring. This allows owners to adjust the snugness for a perfect fit, accommodating neck sizes for small, medium, and large breeds, as well as cats.

How to Properly Use and Secure the BENCMATE Donut Collar

While the BENCMATE recovery collar is straightforward, proper setup is essential for maximizing its protective capabilities and preventing determined pets from wiggling free.

Step 1: Inflation

The collar is easily inflated manually or with a standard air pump (though one is not typically included). Users note that the valve features an auto-close mechanism, preventing air leakage while you seal the plug. It’s important to inflate it fully for maximum rigidity and reach prevention, though some users recommend leaving it "slightly under inflated" if the primary goal is maximizing pillow comfort during sleep, provided the wound is not reachable in that state.

A cautionary note from experienced users: If you need to reinflate after the pet has worn it for a while, use a pump. Attempting manual inflation means getting "a mouth full of wet smelling dog fur," as one honest reviewer pointed out.

Step 2: Securing with the Collar (CRITICAL STEP)

Many owners who report their dogs slipping the collar off neglected this step initially. To achieve the best possible fit and retention, thread the pet’s everyday collar through the inner fabric loops before placing the donut on their neck. As one successful user explained, once they realized the purpose of the loops and tightened the regular collar slightly, the BENCMATE collar "held strong." This ensures that even heavy chewers or dogs who try to push the cone off (like the 4-star Aussie owner noted) are unable to escape.

Step 3: Adjusting the Velcro

Once the collar is threaded through, secure the outer Velcro strap for a snug, yet comfortable fit. The Velcro strength is consistently praised, being secure enough to prevent escape but manageable enough for human hands to remove quickly.

In-Depth Analysis: Pros and Cons (Based on Real User Feedback)

Our analysis of dozens of real-world user experiences confirms that the BENCMATE offers a massive improvement over traditional cones, though it does come with specific limitations that owners must be aware of.

The Pros: Comfort, Mobility, and Stress Reduction

  • Superior Comfort: This is the dominant benefit. Pets stop acting "tortured" and instead use the collar as a soft, convenient headrest or pillow. The ability to sleep peacefully is a huge factor in recovery success.
  • Unrestricted Vision and Movement: Because the donut sits close to the neck, the pet maintains full peripheral vision. They can navigate doorways and furniture without collision, protecting both the house and the animal from accidental injury. The dog can maintain an active schedule with limited interference.
  • Ease of Use and Maintenance: The outer fabric cover is washable, making it a highly hygienic option for long recovery periods. The design is also easy to store dog recovery donut when deflated.
  • Great for Specific Injuries: Highly effective for injuries on the face, eyes (as confirmed by the black lab owner), head, neck, and upper body.
  • Excellent Customer Service: Multiple reviewers cited prompt and courteous customer support, including receiving free replacements when sizing was incorrect or if a zipper failed.

If your pet is struggling with the stress of the plastic cone, switching to this durable scratch resistant inflatable pet collar is likely the best move you can make for their immediate well-being. A pet owner recovering from a spay shared their immediate relief: You can purchase this collar on Amazon here to give your stressed pet instant comfort.

The Cons: Limitations and Sizing Challenges

  • Reach Limitations (Anatomy Dependent): This is the most significant drawback. For long-bodied, flexible dogs (like some Labradoodles or certain mixes), or dogs with injuries on their lower backs, tail, or especially their front paws, the donut may not provide 100% protection. One owner of a GSD noted that for front paw injuries, the dog could easily reach the area. Similarly, a Great Pyrenees owner noted the large dog was still able to lick from the belly button down.
  • Sizing Inconsistency: A few users experienced issues with the sizing chart, finding the small sizes ran extremely small (e.g., a 5 lb Yorkie owner needing a larger size). It is crucial to measure carefully and consider sizing up if your dog is close to the upper limit of a size, especially if the injury is lower on the body.
  • Multi-Dog Household Risk: If you have high-energy, playful dogs, the inflatable nature can pose a risk. One boxer owner reported that her other boxers treated the donut like a chew toy, resulting in a puncture within hours. It's best used in a single-dog household or under strict supervision if other dogs are present.
  • Re-inflation Difficulty: While it holds air well, re-inflating by mouth after prolonged use is understandably unpleasant for the owner.

Comparative Review: BENCMATE vs. Traditional Plastic Cones and Soft Fabric Collars

The core value proposition of the BENCMATE inflatable design lies in its functional advantages over other protective collars. Below, we analyze how it stacks up against the ubiquitous plastic cone and other soft cone types, using the comprehensive feedback provided by real pet owners.

Functionality Comparison Table

Feature BENCMATE Inflatable Collar (Donut) Traditional Plastic Cone (E-Collar)
Comfort/Sleep Excellent. Acts as a pillow. Significantly reduces stress. Poor. Rigid, uncomfortable, difficult to rest the head.
Vision & Mobility Full peripheral vision maintained. Dogs navigate freely, reducing bumping and furniture damage. (SK: e-collar that doesn't block vision for eating sleeping) Severely restricted vision. Causes dogs to bump into walls and get stuck (the "millstone" effect).
Eating/Drinking Allows normal access to bowls. Requires raising food/water bowls or removing the cone.
Protection Effectiveness High for upper body, head, eye injuries. Variable for hind legs or abdomen (depends on body shape/flexibility). High overall protection due to length.
Durability/Hygiene Durable outer fabric; inner tube is scratch-resistant but vulnerable to punctures from chewers. Cover is removable and washable. (SK: washable pet recovery collar for cats and dogs) Plastic cracks over time, difficult to clean thoroughly.
Storage Easily deflated and stored compactly. (SK: easy to store dog recovery donut) Large, cumbersome, difficult to store.

Unique Analysis: The Comfort vs. Coverage Trade-off

The primary critique against the donut style, as opposed to the cone, is that coverage isn't absolute. However, users consistently prioritize the animal's mental health. The high stress and panic induced by the plastic cone often lead to greater problems (falling, refusing to eat) than the slight risk of reaching a lower incision with the donut. For areas like neuter incisions or abdominal surgery, the donut works well for most dogs, provided they are not excessively flexible or long-bodied.

The key takeaway from the comparison data is this: the BENCMATE offers sufficient protection for the vast majority of common injuries (eye issues, hot spots, spay/neuter) while drastically improving the quality of life during recovery. For those specific cases where a pet needs protection for an incision on a rear leg or paw, combining the BENCMATE with a recovery suit or close supervision offers the best of both worlds—comfort combined with targeted protection.

For pet owners who have faced the misery of the plastic cone, the BENCMATE is consistently described as a "lifesaver." For instance, a dog recovering from TPLO surgery used the BENCMATE and found it "much more comfortable while keeping her from reaching her stitches."

Protecting Specific Injuries: Effectiveness for Hot Spots, Spay/Neuter, and Eye Injuries

The effectiveness of the BENCMATE Inflatable Dog Cone Collar Alternative is highly specific to the location of the injury. When considering this product, visualize where your pet’s snout would land if they tried to reach the wound while wearing the inflated donut.

Eye and Head Injuries

For injuries to the face, ears, or eyes (such as the corneal ulcer detailed in one review), the donut design is exceptionally effective. It creates a complete barrier that prevents the dog from rubbing or pawing at the injury, without obstructing their forward view. The lab with the eye issue was completely protected from rubbing the eye on furniture or using her paws, which is a major victory over hard cones that often just get wedged against surfaces.

Spay and Neuter Incisions

The majority of owners purchase this as a dog cone for spay neuter hot spot eye injury protection. For neuter and spay incisions, the BENCMATE generally works well. For medium to large dogs with standard proportions, the inflated ring is wide enough to prevent the tongue from reaching the belly incision. However, owners of smaller, longer-bodied, or very flexible dogs (like the Australian Labradoodle) should be vigilant, as these pups may still manage to lick. In these cases, purchasing a size larger to increase the donut diameter may be necessary, or combining it with a recovery shirt (suitical).

Hot Spots and Paw Licking

The BENCMATE collar is a great tool to prevent continuous paw and body licking caused by hot spots or allergies. For front paws, it often works unless the dog is long-snouted (like a GSD). For rear paws or hips, effectiveness depends entirely on the dog's flexibility and the collar’s size. Choosing a large dog comfortable e-collar alternative with sufficient diameter is key here.

Durability and Maintenance: Washable Pet Recovery Collar

During a 10-to-14 day recovery period, hygiene is paramount. Wounds need a clean environment, and pet collars often collect hair, dander, and saliva. The BENCMATE design excels in this area.

The collar utilizes a sturdy PVC tube and is covered by a soft, durable outer fabric. This protective layer is zipper-secured and can be easily removed. It is machine-washable, making the BENCMATE a true washable pet recovery collar for cats and dogs. Users confirm that the cover washes up like new, even after prolonged use by energetic puppies.

In terms of longevity, the material is highly durable scratch resistant inflatable pet collar material. Users noted it withstands constant wear and tear, and even minor play. While highly motivated chewers or multi-dog households might pose a risk to the air valve or the fabric, for most dogs, the collar remains effective and taut throughout the recovery period. One user who had a 7-month-old English Bulldog puppy attested that the collar held up despite the pup’s best efforts at chewing and crate rest antics.

Who Is This Product Best For?

The BENCMATE inflatable collar is a versatile solution, but it truly excels for certain types of pets and owners.

The Comfort-Seeker (Small dogs/Cats)

If you have a small dog, like a Chihuahua or Maltese, or a cat recovering from minor surgery, the sheer difference in stress level is worth the investment. These smaller pets often feel overwhelmed by the hard plastic cone. The soft, lightweight BENCMATE allows them to move around comfortably and regain their appetite faster. Owners of small, sensitive breeds can find the BENCMATE in their size range here.

The Post-Surgery Patient (Medium/Large dogs)

For dogs recovering from abdominal incisions (spay, neuter, stomach surgery) or those requiring knee procedures (like TPLO surgery), the BENCMATE provides ample protection without the bulk. For a medium-sized dog (like a 35lb Aussiedoodle), the large size typically provides the necessary barrier. Using this as a large dog comfortable e-collar alternative is especially appreciated by owners of breeds like Labs, GSDs, and St. Bernards, where the large plastic cones are enormous and highly obstructive.

The Active House Navigator (All sizes)

If your dog is active, clumsy, or must navigate tight spaces (like kennels or small apartments), the BENCMATE minimizes the risk of injury and property damage. It’s far superior for maintaining a sense of normalcy, especially for dogs that are reluctant to accept the typical cone. Ensure a smooth, collision-free recovery by purchasing the BENCMATE today.

Conclusion: Is the BENCMATE Inflatable Collar Worth the Investment?

The BENCMATE Inflatable Dog Cone Collar Alternative, Soft Dog Cone for Small Medium Large Dogs and Cats, Neck Recovery ECollar Donut Collar After Surgery is unequivocally a superior product compared to the antiquated plastic cone. It is a genuine, high-quality solution that addresses the physical discomfort and psychological stress associated with traditional recovery collars.

While owners must be mindful of potential reach issues for specific wound locations (like rear paws or very flexible abdomens), for the vast majority of post-op recovery scenarios, the BENCMATE provides a protective barrier that feels more like a plush neck pillow than a prison sentence. Its durability, washable design, ease of storage, and ability to keep pets comfortable while maintaining visibility makes it a highly recommended product.

If you prioritize your pet's comfort and well-being during a stressful recovery period, switching to this soft inflatable donut collar for dogs to prevent licking is a decision you won't regret. Say goodbye to the 'cone of shame' and hello to a happier, quicker recovery.

If your pet is facing surgery or already struggling with a hard cone, do yourself and your furry friend a favor: Order the BENCMATE Inflatable Collar Alternative now and start the healing process stress-free.

Much better than a traditional cone(Eye issue) February 26, 2025 Color: Dark GreySize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase I have an older black lab who is spoiled rotten. She is well behaved and has pretty much gotten to the point where we just let her do her thing because we can trust she isn't going to cause any troubles. Now that she is older though and so spoiled she doesn't take to change very well which became a problem recently when she somehow got a large corneal ulcer on her left eye(we think a stick poked her but that's not the point). Anyway, right after she injured it I started putting a traditional plastic cone on her. The poor spoiled thing looked at me like I was torturing her. She would just stand there holding her head down like the cone was a millstone hung around her neck, but I said "I'm sorry this is for your own good". Well I guess she decided to show me because then she started slowly walking swaying her head and slinging the cone around bumping into everything she could. Then I found her stuck in a doorway because the lip of the cone was stuck on the door frame and she was looking down the hall, so she couldn't figure out why she couldn't walk forward. I helped her through, but she kept bumping into things(I promise she was doing it on purpose the way she bumped into several things) and sometimes she would hit things so hard it would make her fall. Well she is a little fragile, so after fighting with the cone for a few hours it became clear that she was going to break something(in the house or worse one of her bones), so I took the cone off thinking it would be better to chance the eye than possibly an injury that could cost her life. After a few days though the eye started looking worse, and I started researching other options and found this. First off let me say, my spoiled lab still acts like she has a millstone hooked to her neck when wearing this but it is much safer for her. Also when walking in a wide open space she will still purposefully get as close to obstacles but instead of a cone that catches things, this one just bushes against it. It has 100% kept her from rubbing her eye on furniture or using her paws. Depending on how she lays sometimes it looks comfortable, but sometimes not so much, however regardless it seems more comfortable than the plastic cone. It is easy to inflate if you know what you are doing. For my dog(and I certainly wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless they can related) because she is so well behaved and pretty much just accepts things regardless of if she likes it or not, I am able to just slip the donut on and off without running it through the collar. This allows me to quickly and easily take it on and off when I am with her and can watch her, and I also don't have to worry about her pulling it off and I haven't seen any difference whatsoever in her wearing it whether it was through the collar or not, but it was a hassle to take on and off when I was using the collar through it. She has started to get used to it but she is still spoiled. For example when I take it off she will have both of her eyes wide open, but when I slip this on her she will look at me with the left eye squinting. She is notorious for wanting pity parties(which means getting snacks), and I know that's what the squinting eye is all about. Don't believe me? one time she was staring at me while I was eating a carrot(her favorite snack), and I said "none for you", and while she is still staring at me and been perfectly fine all day, she slowly drew her paw up as if it was hurting her. Anyway, while much better than a traditional plastic cone, some dogs still may not behave quite normally with this. 44 people found this helpful

Pup approved! Get this donut way better than an e-collar. September 17, 2025 Color: PlaidSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Nice quality cover that’s soft and removable, so you can clean or wash it if needed. It’s easy to blow up - either with a pump or just your own hot air if you don’t have one. It’s held air for a few days so far without any issues. There are two loops on the inside where you can slide a collar or gauze through to secure it to your pet’s collar if needed. Around the outside is a strong, adjustable Velcro strap that keeps your pup from sneaking out. Bonus: it looks super cute and works like a little pillow, helping their wounds heal by preventing licking, making both of us happy. Mom and pup approved! Comfortable and served purpose September 26, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:16"-18"] Large+Verified Purchase I got this for my male Aussie after his neuter surgery and surprisingly, it worked pretty well. He’s a heavy chewer so I didn’t expect much or for him to leave it on but I think because he could comfortably lay down with it as a head rest, he didn’t mind. Towards day 3 he did start slipping it off (which isn’t hard to do) but for the first 2 days when he was feeling rough, this prevented the licking and was comfortable. The strap is velcrow and you can make it tighter or more loose if needed. Only giving a 4 star due to my dog being able to slip out but overall it exceeded my expectation Customer image

A comfy alternative to the plastic cones. August 18, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase So glad this brand was available for same day delivery after our Chihuahua-Terrier mix developed a sudden anal glad abscess that needed Vet treatment. We're very happy with its well-made quality soft fabric and good fit for our 11 lb furbaby. It was easy to inflate, but the loops to insert her regular collar were very tight and no adjustments, so a little bit of a challenge. She finally got used to it and fell asleep in her favorite chair. She had no problems keeping it on all night once it was time to go into her kennel, once she figure out a comfortable position to lay her head down. The next morning we let her have a break without it for breakfast, but pretty soon she was trying to lick her wound, and we found it worked just as well without connecting it with her collar with her neck circumstance at 9.5", so the Velcro straps were strong enough on their own to keep it snug, and we didn't have any problems with her trying to pull it off. This is a great option over the uncomfortable plastic cones if the dog's not the type to try and pull it off. The only negative interaction is when unhooking the Velcro strap, as the noise scares her a little bit. We haven't tried having her eat out of her food dish with it on as she wasn't too sure about that and was very hesitant, so we took it off. Customer image Customer image 6 people found this helpful

Excellent and Comfortable Recovery Collar August 20, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase I have a GSD. She has a hotspot on her shoulder and this collar is preventing her from getting to it. I've used this recovery collar before, but I couldn't locate it. What I love about this collar is that it allows my girl to be comfortable and pretty much maintain her active schedule. It is also a lifesaver on my furniture as she is not banging into things. She's able to eat and drink with limited interference by the collar. While my girl's neck size allows for a large, I did size up to extend the restriction reach, and her regular collar is able to maintain it in place. **I will say that this collar is not for long-faced dogs like a GSD for any injuries on the front paws as they can easily reach that area.** Customer image Customer image 6 people found this helpful

Good Quality Inflatable Donut Collar April 5, 2024 Color: Navy BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase Purchased this to use instead of the cone of shame after my pup Rollo got neutered couple weeks ago. It’s a Medium. He is a mini multigenerational Australian Labradoodle that weighs about 15lbs. He wears a collar that’s 10”-15” I think. His actual neck measurement is about 11”. The collar fit him well. I had to push it to get his neck to pop into it but it was not too tight at all. Actually perfect. I did not run his collar thru the loops but they’re on there if you choose. He could not get it off once the Velcro strap was connect around the outside. So THIS COLLAR DID NOT STOP him from LICKING himself. He’s got a pretty long body and is very flexible. However, I did not want to by a cone and use it. It did act as a deterrent though. Although he could still reach to lick the incisions, he did not do it nearly as frequently as when he had nothing on. Vet’s office said usually a couple gentle corrections is enough to deter a dog from licking or bothering the incisions (barring any unforeseen irritations from infections or such I presume). This Was Not the case for my Rollo. With it on his neck though, he only required a few NO’s each day. Without wearing it he was constantly trying to get at the two incisions. I did look into getting a larger size but the diameter of the inflatable donut part is the same no matter the size. So we just stuck it out with this one. Also good to know that I blew it up just one time, the first time. I did not have to add more at any point because of leaks etc. If your dog is flexible and has a long body, this likely will not be a 100% effective cone alternative. He was very comfortable, took lots of naps and wore it 24/7 for 8 days. He was still able to play with his toys, sleep, eat & drink while wearing it. I pushed his collar down below the donut and kept donut up higher on his neck. This also made it possible to connect his leash for going potty outside. It has a soft cover over on it so it’s not just plastic directly touching him and I guess it offers some protection from chewing. I did not rate the Chew Proof. He never chewed on it or tried to. He initially tried to push it off with his back paws but it lasted maybe 2 mins max. He did scratch at the area below where it was placed on his neck but nothing excessive. This did not puncture/hurt it at all. Customer image Customer image Customer image Customer image Customer image 64 people found this helpful

Great, but a side note to anyone who owns a few dogs September 18, 2025 Color: Blue DonutSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase I would give this 5 stars. Cute look considering usually why a dog needs one. Soft feel so nice on them. However the reason for 1 star, I have other boxers and within 4 1/2 hours they had chewed a hole in it where the part you blow it up. Which also on that note they had a 2 step plugger so you were able blow up fully. Now mind you I have 6 other boxers so he had help in that dept to destroy it so do keep that in mind. However yes great for a single dog, perhaps even 2, not great when u have others who wanna play (without their friend w/a donut around his head) As you see in pix he enjoyed his ride home this gave him no issues. So recommend with a side note attached! I found this around his neck deflated too so I will note the Velcro strength is very good, it’s about a 5” worth of Velcro. With a zipper to remove for easy cleaning-I never made it that far lol & it fit perfectly. I have a 65 pound boxer & got the xl. Hope this helps anyone! He’s back to the cone and miserable ☹️ Customer image Customer image Customer image One person found this helpful

Size up August 30, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:4"-7"] SmallVerified Purchase My 10 lb Maltese received a 15cm collar from the vet after bandaging her leg so that was close to 6” so I thought the small would work but it didn’t. Not only was it an inch too small, she was able to reach the bandage which made this basically useless.

I am in the process of returning the small blue inflatable collar but because of the durability of the materials, the ease of adjustability, and the Velcro strength, I chose to order a medium as a replacement. The medium size is working perfectly. She can’t reach her wound to lick and the fit is much better. I did take a star off due to sizing chart was slightly off for my small breed and having to return/replacing for a larger size.

Great Invention!! September 5, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase Great Product! This is the second one I have purchased. The first was for my son‘s lab who had TPLO surgery and it worked far much better than the cone. The cone broke several times and that’s when I found this inflatable collar. This time I purchased it from my lab who clipped his nail while playing and in order to keep him from licking the cut the vet suggested using a cone. I have the cone and it works but the bencmate hands down is the best. I had ordered the wrong size mistakenly however, I reached out to support and they were very prompt in responding and also courteous. Have a replacement coming tomorrow at no cost. Keep up the good work Bencmate team!

Perfect E-Collar for my pups August 12, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase I ordered 2 of these because I was getting my 2 boy poms neutered and didn't want them using the plastic type because they run into things and can damage them along with hurting the pup. I blew them up and let them sit and noticed both of them would lose a little air. I redone them and again they lost air so I did it a 3rd time and made sure to push the plug in all the way before pushing the plug into the collar. This helped because they did not lose air again. I got the medium size for an 8 lb. and 13 lb. pom and they fit perfectly. They look much better than the plastic type. Not a bad price either. So easy to put on and take off. While I was at the vet to pick up my pups, there were a few people talking about e-collars so I showed them these and they all said they were going to get them for their dogs. I have noticed that when my pups try to lay down, these hold their heads up and it pushes on their throats so they snore. I don't think they are hurting but it may bother them a little. Impressed! September 21, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase I was hesitant to order because I honestly didn’t think this would hold up—but I’m so glad I was wrong! When I first put it on, my dog managed to escape, and I almost started a return. Then I noticed the black straps on the inside, threaded his collar through, tightened it slightly, and gave it another try. Since then, it’s held strong and allowed my dog’s injuries to heal. I’m highly impressed with how durable it’s been, and it’s still going strong!!

Puppy hasnt ruined it, and he gave it his best shot September 21, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Works great, and hasnt shown signs of wear or losing air or coming apart... Even when put to the test of an English Bulldog puppy, who is stuck on crate rest at 40 lbs and 7 months old... full of teething and energy and shenanigans... the cover comes off soooo easy, and washes up like new. Even stays bright! and the velcro strengh is very mid... Like not yank hard pain to do with one hand, but not worrisome easy to pull off.

Great for the 2nd stage of healing! Bout 11 days post op to give more free range August 6, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Great dog collar! I do recommend the cone Elizabeth style collar for the first10 days after the surgery because my male dog was still able to fold himself up and lick his wounds from being neutered. If you watch your pet after surgery and use this to let them out on a leash it’s much easier for them to get around-as it doesn’t block their view. When you come back in you can put the cone style back on till further in the healing process. This donut style is also nice when they’re eating as it gives the face full freedom. Whereas the Elizabeth cone you have to raise the dish off the ground so the cone can go around it. So again I’d recommend cone style after surgery till the 11th day and then you can swap to this donut comforting style to finish out recovery. You can see in the pic I attached my sweet male pup is feeling better and back to his favorite pass time :) he doesn’t eat them.. he just loves shoes, lol. This donut is a step up on recovery. You definitely don’t need any set backs on the road to healing! Best wishes to y’all and your fur family! Customer image One person found this helpful

Helped heal our fur baby’s wound. September 15, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Worked great on our dog after she had a cut from a barb, and she wouldn’t let it heal. She actually enjoyed the product because she always sleeps on a pillow and it acted just like that. It gave her the ability to eat and drink like normal but not mess with her open wound. She is healed and when I removed the pillow she gave me a look as if she wanted it back. So I replaced her collar. She was happy to have it back. Customer image One person found this helpful

Has Withstood Over a Week of 24/7 Use! June 13, 2025 Color: Donut-StrawberrySize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase A friend gave me a link to this and of course I had to buy my girl the donut! My 5 month old Doberman (about 55lbs and a couple feet tall) hated the ginormous e-collar the vet put on her after she was spayed but absolutely LOVES this inflatable collar. I take it off her occasionally and she gets rather possessive of it! She has worn this now for a week day and night without issue. At first I didn’t realize there are loops inside the inflatable to run her collar through so tied it to her collar which worked so-so. Once I figured out the built in attachment it has stayed on without a problem. It’s given her lots of agility the e-collar/cone took away. We have two other large dogs and this inflatable collar has withstood playtime both inside and outside, and she sleeps with it no problem. I do have to reinflate it every other day just to keep it taut but it doesn’t deflate much at all. I bought size large which for her perfectly. She is able to reach down to her back and privates a little bit if it’s deflated but not really when fully inflated. The nice thing is the cover can be removed and washed (it is starting to look a little manky). Customer image Customer image 8 people found this helpful

Order multiple sizes to make sure you get the right fit August 23, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:Up to 5"] X-SmallVerified Purchase My dog is recovering from getting spayed and the regular cone from the vet made her so uncomfortable. She lost her appetite and had trouble sleeping. She is much happier in this donut. As soon as we made the switch, she ate a full meal immediately and happily ate a treat with ease. I wish I knew about this product before the surgery so we couldn’t avoided the few days she had to endure with the regular cone. She is a 6 mo old Italian greyhound and the XS fits her pretty well, although it would’ve probably been a good idea to order multiple sizes just to make sure it’s the best fit. She seems pretty satisfied with it though! Customer image Customer image

Worked very well, but...WASH THE SLEEVE FIRST!! July 15, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase My dog had a small cut on the inside of his front leg. This inflatable cone worked much better than the plastic cone from his neuter. It is easy to put on, take off, and put back on. My dog did not mind. It's lightweight and fits very well. 25 pound dog and I went with a medium.

However, after the second day, I noticed a bunch of irritated bums on his neck. I washed the sleeve and put it back on so hopefully there won't be more issues.

I would recommend not putting it on your dog straight out of the package.

Not for high toy drive dogs August 26, 2025 Color: Donut-StrawberrySize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Does NOT work for multi dog households with high prey drives.

I thought this produce looked adorable and hilarious. Other people I know have used them with great success. Your knees don’t get taken out by the cone and your walls remain unscratched.

I bought this to use with my working line Swedish Vallhunds, first for a male that I neutered and second for his mom when she got spayed.

The same thing happened both times. I inflated it and I was descended upon by a wave of biting furry piranhas, including the dog wearing it who bucked and furiously tried to bite the thing around their own neck thinking it was a toy. All the other dogs were also trying to bite it in extreme excitement.

Needless to say, I took it off right away to avoid it being popped. If I even moved it from storage the dogs would rush me looking to play with it.

So no malinois, cattle dog, bird dogs etc lol I’m sad it didn’t work because it’s so funny and cute

St Bernard friendly… July 9, 2025 Color: WatermelomSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase I love this thing so much! We were using the E collar cone but as big as she is she kept running into everything and jamming it into her neck and was causing small cuts and chaffing. It is so hard to find things like this for extra large dogs… but it fits her perfectly and uses her collar to attach for a perfect fit! She is able to eat and drink easily. I would say depending on the surgery type will depend on if it’s right for you. She had front elbow surgery to remove a tumor. She can almost reach her incision site and drains… but is a little short of it, so she licks and bites at her legs and paws. The ring does get dirty pretty fast but… that is normal for her and is washable. Even if this is the only use we get out of it, it is worth it. She will be wearing this a full month. Currently, 2 weeks of use. If things change in the next couple weeks… I will update! So far so good! … she is such a cute melon head!

Comfortable alternative for face wound though not a complete barrier April 16, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase I bought this for my Australian Shepherd to protect a wound on her cheek, as she kept scratching the wound with her hind leg. I first tried the plastic cone, and she would have nothing to do with it. I wasn't sure if the donut design was wide enough to prevent her hind leg from reaching her face, but took a chance. I would say it's a hindrance but not completely fool-proof. If she twists her body enough, she is still able to reach her face. It will also not prevent her from rubbing her cheek on the rug or the bed. So as a barrier it's not as effective as the cone design. However, since it's so much more comfortable than the plastic cone, she can drink/eat with it, sleep with it, and it does at least hinder her from readily scratching the face, I'm giving it 4 stars. Would give this ten stars if I could!! July 3, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:16"-18"] Large+Verified Purchase I would give this ten stars if I could. My lab had spay surgery and had to wear the cone. I bought the one from the vets office for $40 and it does it's job, but dogs lose their peripheral vision with those. So I bought this. At first I thought it would be awkward or that she could get it off her head... Nope!! This inflatable cone is the best!! It's actually like a little pillow too when she lays down. The Velcro is really good and I haven't had to put any air in it since I blew it up the first time. She doesn't run into everything with it on like she would with the regular cone. I mean she does a little bit bc she forgets she's wearing it. Haha. The vet tried to say the inflatable collars weren't the best n pushed me to buy theirs .. that's why I bought that too. It's been collecting dust ! I'm SO glad I bought this. She's not just a dog ☺️ Customer image 3 people found this helpful

Reinflating this is gross! August 1, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase Ok so here’s my take on this product:

It kinda works, it has convenient features like hoops for your dogs collar so they can’t pull out of it, which you definitely need, and it’s very soft so I don’t feel as bad seeing my pupper wear it compared to the plastic cone.

Here’s my bugaboos with it, it really doesn’t protect area like a cone does. I have an 90 lb Great Pyrenees and he was still able to like from his belly button down. After inflating it the first time, USE A PUMP, after it’s been worn there is nothing worse than getting a mouth full of wet smelling dog fur. The fill nipple is recessed into the fabric cover and doesn’t come out very far, putting the cover on after inflating is nearly impossible so you really just gotta get in there to refill.

Way better than a cone! Doesn’t 100% stop from licking spay stitches though. May 9, 2025 Color: PinkSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Sooo much more comfortable than her cone!! My 8 month old golden doodle just got spayed & absolutely hated the cone. It was so heavy, would get in the way of her walking around. This donut pillow works great! It’s soft, comfortable, and she is able to still drink water and eat her food while wearing it. We ordered a size Large. She is about 30 pounds. I will say it doesn’t completely stop her from licking her stitches, she can barely reach it but it’s so uncomfortable for her to reach over the donut that it makes her give up quickly. I would recommend still monitoring your animal closely with this as well. Customer image 21 people found this helpful

My dog was able to actually sleep I it because it provided a pillow to rest her head. I left it slightly under inflated so she could do that. Thanks!

Soft, better than a cone but still need to watch! May 9, 2025 Color: GreySize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase Our Silver Labrador pup used it as a pillow! It was much easier for him to move around the house and eat than it is with the plastic cone but he could still reach his neutered area. I still would prefer this over the cone but you need to keep a closer eye. Good value, easy to inflate and very soft fabric. He's almost full grown at 65lbs and 11months old,we got the XL. A lifesaver! August 9, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:7"-11"] MediumVerified Purchase A cat punctured my doggie's eye, and she had to have it removed. She hated the cone the vet gave her, so I ordered a soft cone from Amazon, but she hated that one, too. However, she loves this donut. It seems to be super comfortable, and she can't scratch her eye. Peace of mind! September 18, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:4"-7"] SmallVerified Purchase This collar is what I decided on after both my dog and I disliked the typical cone. My Shih Tzu was recently neutered, and this inflatable donut, fitting around the neck, was perfect. He was more than able to eat, drink, and especially sleep with it on. In fact, quite often he used it like a pillow, while lying on the floor. I’m so glad I bought it! Customer image

Perfect solution! August 6, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase I am very grateful for overnight shipping for this item. I thought I already had one, so I refused the one from the vet. Then got home and remembered that I gave it away. Luckily night one home, my dog was so out of it on meds she was fine. She tore her back open on a hitch reciever, the laceration was extensive. She did not want a suitical on becsuse the fabric over the stitches was aggrivating her. I included photos and you can see for her injury this is perfect placement. It does not touch the wound, keeps her from reaching it, and serves as a pillow for sleeping on. It's very soft, feels durable, and blew up easily. Very reasonable price. For reference, and to help others choose size......my dog is a Border Collie. 30 lbs, 14" neck, 19" tall at the shoulder, 22" back length. I ordered the large and it's perfect for her, both in neck size and in depth for nose. (She isn't able to get her nose around it to the wound). It also came with a patch . Best thing I did for my little guy! September 27, 2025 Color: OrcaSize: [Neck:11"-14"] Medium+Verified Purchase After his neuter, his cone looked so uncomfortable and he hurt himself with it. But after putting the Bencmate inflatable dog collar on him, he flew by me, playing, drinking his water, looking so more comfortable than he was. He was fine for his recuperation and slept peacefully and safely in it. Customer image Customer image

So much better than the plastic cones! May 30, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase UPDATE: The cone did not end up getting punctured from the dogs playing. It lasted until we took it off of him, about 8 days post surgery. We still have it fully intact. It was absolutely loaded with his fur, but that's to be expected. I will use this again if needed and would definitely purchase this again! We noticed that after a while, he was able to reach part of the way to his "surgery spot" but not fully. Either way, he didn't do any damage, I think it was just itchy from healing plus I am sure it also deflated some over some time and him playing constantly with his sister!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is so much better than the plastic cone that was given to me by the veterinarian. I had my boy neutered yesterday, and of course he was groggy from the anesthesia, but he was miserable all night long because of that hard plastic cone. My sister had suggested that this cone that she got for her girl when she got her spayed. However she couldn’t borrow it to me because her other dog punctured a hole in it. So I went ahead and ordered this, luckily it came overnight for my poor boy. Once we took off the plastic cone and put this on him, you could see the relief in his face. He has been functioning just fine with this soft cone, it’s so much better, he can actually see and he’s not bumping into everything and opening cupboards with the cone. My other dog is also not afraid of him anymore 😂
Hopefully this lasts for the 10 to 14 days he is supposed to keep it on. Him and his sister are constantly playing so I’m guessing at some point this is also going to get bitten and end up with a hole punctured in it. But for now my boy has some relief.
I got the large for him and it fits perfect. He is a 67 pound Australian Shepherd for a reference.
It was super easy to set up. You just simply blow up the inner tube and then loop their existing collar through the little holes on there to keep it secure.

Much more functional than a cone collar!!! August 7, 2025 Color: GreySize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase It works great! Sometimes he uses it as a pillow. He constantly picks his paws until they are raw so now we stop it with this. He can still eat and drink, as well as doing his normal doggy activities. Just no licking his paws.

After measuring his neck and collar per instruction on their shop page, we got exactly what we requested upon delivery. His collar is thick but we got it on with no problem. havent had any issue with the velcro and havent had any air loss.

Super easy to put on even with the collar. I like the blue color on him and its perfect because our dogs have color coded accessories and that's his. They have a few color and style choices to fit your needs.

I will always use this collar inflatable over a cone any day. I hate how cones make it hard for them to eat and drink or walk without crashing into things. Well this collar solves all of that!!!

Durable September 24, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Extremely durable and soft! My heeler uses it as a toy now that she doesn’t need it after her surgery anymore- she bites it, throws it around, and it’s still holding strong! It was also very useful post-surgery, as she wouldn’t keep the plastic cone on but she would keep this one on. One person found this helpful

Great alternative August 27, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:14"-18"] LargeVerified Purchase Great alternative to a cone. My dog could comfortably sleep in this and was less anxious than with a plastic cone. Stays on good. Just a little heard to blow up/refill with air if it deflates a bit.

Inflatable dog collar September 11, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase Our 120 pound dog needed to have surgery on his knee. This was much more comfortable than the cone I got from the vet. He did wear the cone of shame at night but during the days he wore this. He didn’t bang his head on furniture and doorways. He had to wear this for 3 weeks. Very easy to put on and remove. I never had to add air to it Customer image

Worked wonderfully September 8, 2025 Color: BlueSize: [Neck:18"-23"] X-LargeVerified Purchase I wasn't sure how this was going to go with my dog. I just knew I couldn't use the plastic cone that they usually come home from the vet with. This was a lifesaver! Her collar goes inside the doughnut and just clip her collar on as usual. She wore this for almost 2 weeks and only got it off once. She even slept with it on. I think she actually liked wearing it.
