It’s entirely up to you and how your dog likes to lay down. I always want to give my dog more room. When I went to purchase, I was concerned because my dog is large and the large was sold out. After considering his length I thought this could work. I received it in a small box. It made me very nervous to see it that small but when I took it out of the box, like magic it got much bigger lol. It was very easy to put together. I did it myself, it took about 15 minutes. it’s very sturdy holds up very well. My Bulldog is 71 pounds and he and my other little dog was on the bed at the same time. I am considering ordering another one. It depends on how much they actually use the bed. The price is very reasonable. This is one of the best brands out there. This is also good for your dog back or an elderly dog that may be uncomfortable in cushion beds. I bought it to keep them off the deck when it’s hot also because of bugs and in general so they’re comfortable when they are outside occasionally. I highly recommend it. I really appreciate the price point! I will say that when I unboxed it, I was a little let down because of the material. I, of coarse just looked at the pics and looked for the size and pulled the trigger. Now, I'm grateful for it. It has a smooth straight forward appearance and is easily movable. The weight of the bed overall is not bad at all. The amount of work you do is attaching 4 limbs, 2 bars and 4 screws with the included allen key. I would suggest not attaching the two long legs first, but instead run both legs through the material and join them inside the sleeve. It's actually easier that way than manipulating the material through the leg bends. For those of you who do read, it is like patio furniture material. It is breathable, and if it gets dirty, I'll just hit it with the pressure washer. You've seen patio furniture material and know how it has a coarse feeling to it. So naturally, sometimes when he jumps off of it, his nails will sometimes snag in it. Not to where it hurts him or anything, just like an annoyance really. I haven't seen any snags in it anywhere yet, but I'm sure it will with his nails eventually. I personally dont feel it will hold rip resistance after extended use, but that's not a complaint.

In my opinion, you can't beat it for the quality and the price!!

It was easy ish to put together....I needed my husband's muscles at one point because the tension is so tight (which it needs to be). I went with the large for my 75 lb. golden retriever. Of those 10 years that we had it, seven of them it stayed outside on our deck. I know I could’ve bought a replacement cover for it, but we had the medium size and we decided to go for the larger size. Also, where we live it’s very humid and the air is very salty because we’re near the ocean so the frame rusted a bit and we just decided to go in for the bigger one since our dog is much older now and we wanted to give him more space to be comfortable since he was on the threshold between the medium and large sizes. Here are TIPS for assembling this bed! June 26, 2021 Style: Large Dog BedColor: Brunswick GreenVerified Purchase My review is primarily to give TIPS FOR ASSEMBLING the Cooleroo Elevated Dog Bed. To read my product review, scroll below.

TIP #1: Take deep breaths, take your time, and have patience! Despite the simple instruction it may take a half hour for you to put this bed together. But once it's done, it's done and you're dog(s) will be so happy. :)

TIP #2: Make sure that each metal leg has a bolt that will FIT. There are four bolts, one for each corner of the bed. Take a bolt and screw it into one of the metal legs until it's there's about an inch left; if it fits, leave it in (until you start assembling the bed, at which point you'll have to remove it). Repeat this for each metal leg.

If you find that one of the bolts doesn't fit one leg very well, try the bolt on another leg. If you discover that one (or more) legs don't have ANY bolts that fit, return the bed or ask the vendor for replacement bolts (I don't know if they'll provide any, though).

TIP #3: Duct tape is your friend! There are three components to each corner: 1) Small spring washer (silver color); 2) the bolt; and 3) a black "plastic insert." This plastic insert is curved so that it will fit the shape of the rounded metal leg. When you're screwing the bolt into the leg, the plastic insert can shift so that it no longer fits the curve. I used some small pieces of duct tape to hold that plastic insert piece in place so I could focus on screwing in the bolt — it made this step SO much easier.

TIP #4: HOW TO FIX THAT FUNKY CORNER OF THE FRAME THAT STICKS UP IN THE AIR! First, understand that this is TOTALLY NORMAL. This bed uses tension to keep the fabric taut and hold the frame together.

Once you've screwed the entire frame together, place it upright so that Legs A, B and C are touching the ground; Leg D will be up the the air. Legs A and D are opposite each other. Use one hand to hold down Leg A (already on the floor) and use your other hand to push Leg D down. Tension will kick in and suddenly you'll have all four legs on the ground and the fabric pulled taut. You did it!

TIP #5: Tape the hex key to a bed leg so you don't lose it. At some point this bed will need to have its screws tightened and you don't want to have to hunt to find that tiny hex key.

I bought my first Cooleroo Elevated Dog Bed in October 2018 (large, Brunswick green). I have a beagle/pit mix who weighs around 55lb. She LOVES this bed, which we keep on our screened porch. Last summer she had ACL surgery and has developed arthritis since then, and the elevation makes her so much more comfortable.

The bed did great until about March 2021. Suddenly one of the bolts would no longer fit more than 1/8" inside the hole, so it kept falling out and the bed would collapse while my dog was on it. I tried buying a replacement bolt at Home Depot that was just a hair thinner, but I couldn't find one.

In June 2021, I bought a replacement bed — same size and color — and put it together today.

The 2018 and 2021 versions of this bed are a bit different. First, the 2018 leg bars had indents around the holes, while the 2021 leg bars are smooth all the way around. This actually the 2021 bed assembly a little bit easier.

Second, the gaps at the corners of the 2021 frame are much smaller, which might make the 2021 bed a bit safer (your dogs feet have less chance of getting stuck in the holes).

Third, the 2018 version didn't have any plastic pieces and used Phillips-head bolts; you had to use your own screwdriver. The 2021 version includes some plastic caps that go between the bolt and the leg, and the bed comes with hex bolts and a hex key. Personally I prefer the Phillips-head bolts because I know where my screwdrivers are; those hex keys are tiny and easily lost (hence taping it to the bed's leg). That said, assembling both beds took about the same amount of time (about 30 minutes for me).

Otherwise the beds are basically the same. I think the plastic caps on the 2021 version will provide some additional stability — I hope so, anyway. But then again, they look like cheap plastic so TBD if they will actually hold up.

My dog has thrown up on her older bed and it was very easy to clean; just hose it down and clean the fabric with dish soap, water and a sponge. She has spent literally hundreds of hours on this bed, and at under $30 that makes it extremely budget-friendly. It's also a good, affordable gift to give fellow dog parents.

My overall rating is 4 stars. I'd give it 5 stars except that 1) it only lasted 2½ years and 2) the instructions should explain about how to push down the fourth corner so the bed sits flat on the floor. I've seen lots of reviewers say they've returned the bed because of this, thinking the frame was broken when it isn't, and that's a shame. Editing the instructions to point this out would save their customers a lot of frustration and disappointment.

The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars is because it is an awful experience putting it together. My husband shed blood sweat and tears putting this together, lol (jk but almost)The screws are super hard and difficult to get into the right position to tightly put it together. We had to take it apart again and fully screw in each one without putting the metal parts together so that the metal tube could receive it once we put them in position again. I would suggest completely screwing the screws into the straight metal tubes by themselves before positioning everything together so that it's easier to screw in once you assemble it. I hope I explained it well so that other buyers have an easier time putting it together. Other than that he absolutely loves his new summer bed. The price is great, the color is nice and the parts are sturdy. Another suggestion is putting some covers on the legs in case you're worried about your wood floors getting scratches. It helps if you only tighten the bolts halfway until all 4 are in place. The last bolt is the tricky one to put in but it does go together. Then put the feet flat on the ground and tighten it the rest of the way so it sits flat. I weigh 138 pounds and it held my weight no problem. The dimensions say that it is 31" by 51" but that is the measurements for the frame. The bed itself is 31' by 41" but it still is pretty big. Nice color and my pets love it. I received this small box and had these small dogs staring at me. While I consider myself fairly handy (I can lay tile, drywall, etc) the thought of directions and parts would not be placed in my top 10 of fun times.

With that said, I literally was preforming acrobatic positions trying to get this thing together. Holding one piece with my foot while positioning the other with my arm (with all my might, then the screw would pop out and I would have to start again. At one point I had all 3 done but the 4th one I even had to use the ward and jam my body in to get another little push. It was a pathetic level of effort, but nonetheless it was effort and about 45 minutes later it was done. They better enjoy sharing this ONE because I won’t get another.

They don’t like it at first, they were scared, so I placed a soft rug on top and now they lay on it.
